Maximizing Storage Space
Let’s face it, besides the kitchen, the laundry room is one of the most used rooms in a home. We all spend way more time in there than we would like and homeowners are embracing it and making this space stylish yet multi-functional.
The laundry room can be a great place to add additional storage to your home. If space allows, we recommend maximizing the number of cabinets you add to this room. If you have a front-loading washer and dryer, it allows you to add upper cabinets above your appliances as well as counter space. Also, you could add cabinetry to the other walls beside your washer/dryer wall. Taller pantry style cabinets would be able to hide your cleaning appliances, such as your vacuum and broom, while smaller base cabinets could house shoes and other small items.
Making it Multi-Functional
We are getting more requests from homeowners to make the laundry room a space that can be more than just a place for the kids to dump their dirty clothes. It can be a craft room – add a small desk unit and cabinets to hold all your crafting needs! The laundry room can also serve as a small home office. We always try to design the space where it can serve as your family’s command center; maximizing the opportunities for storage of backpacks, shoes, and other items that families need on a daily basis.
Just because the laundry room is a space that it more utilitarian than the other rooms in the home, that doesn’t mean you can’t make it stylish! Take the opportunity to choose a fun, painted cabinet finish. Adding moldings to the cabinets will elevate the style and appearance of the space. You can also select a fun back splash with pattern and color to help jazz up the room. You can really have fun with this room and take chances you wouldn’t take in other areas of your home!
