2019 Kitchen Trends

2018 was a great year for kitchen trends. We saw more kitchens become tech-based. Homeowners are becoming more open to adding pops of color to their kitchens. We also saw kitchens evolving with our every changing lifestyle. 2019 is shaping up much like 2018 did. While we’re only a couple weeks in, here are five 2019 kitchen trends I think you should watch for.

CONCEALED VENTS

This is a trend that started to come on strong towards the end of 2018. Homeowners are switching from the industrial look for a cleaner look. They’re achieving this look by hiding their vents. The kitchen has a finished look. It also maintains the contemporary or modern feel you might be going for.

TWO-TONE KITCHENS

Two-tone kitchens are nothing new. In fact, 2018 was a great year for two-tone kitchens. As homeowners expand their kitchens, they’re incorporating a kitchen island. The kitchen island is a great opportunity to create contrast. For example, if you have a white kitchen with white cabinets, you can have contrast by adding a dark color island. Below is an example.

2019 Kitchen Trends

Contrast isn’t only for a large kitchen. Mix light and dark colored cabinets to create a dynamic, yet inviting, space. Or go with a different option with butcher block counter tops. These counter tops not only look great but are functional too. They also work well when trying to achieve that farmhouse look. Expect to see more of this trend on social media.

MIXING YOUR METALS

2018 was the comeback year for brass. I saw it on everything from cabinet hardware to hanging pendants. According to many kitchen design experts, brass is going to have a big year in 2019. You can expect to see more pewter, copper, and black finished metals as well.

BACK IN BLACK

Many kitchen design experts are seeing black as the next big color. I’ve started seeing it trickle in on Instagram lately. Homeowners are creating dramatic and dynamic kitchens with black. It’s on everything from cabinet hardware to counter tops to appliances. Expect to see it more in a matte finish than gloss. Homeowners seem to be moving away from the gloss finishes in 2019.

CONNECTED KITCHEN

As our lives become more dependent on technology, expect to see it in your kitchen. Make cooking and entertaining a breeze. Voice control gadgets, like Amazon’s Alexa, are making it easier in the kitchen. You’re able to turn down the lighting, turn up the music, and operate the thermostat while making dinner.

Appliances becoming connected as well. Smart refrigerators can let you know what you need on your grocery list or what’s starting to spoil. You’re able to avoid dinner mishaps with connected stoves. Set your homemade spaghetti sauce to simmer without getting off the couch.

WRAP-UP

2019 is shaping up to be another great year in kitchen trends. Keep these trends in mind when it comes to your renovation. Also, not all these trends are for everyone. Design your kitchen to fit your lifestyle and your wants/needs.
